Ambition

How different is an ambition from a wish? While we wish for thousands of things everyday, do all of them translate to ambition?

To me when you wish for something the expectation is from external forces like God, parents or in general people around you.  The responsibility to fulfill the wish lies elsewhere.

On the contrary,  an ambition is something you have to work to realise, the onus is primarily on you. Having an ambition in life helps you stay focused. It constantly pushes you to do better. It gives you a sense of responsibility.

Dreams that translate into ambition are therefore more fruitful than the ones that are mere wishes.

Elusive thoughts

Why did I not think of this before? I should have brought this up during that discussion! It would have been so useful. How many times does this happen to us?

Can a thought remain unnoticed as it blends with the "environment"  around it? Thoughts can be funny, hiding at times, when they would have been most welcome, and showing up when they are least expected. Can this be some sort of a camouflage effect? When the environment, that is your brain, is trying to think of something, do related thoughts camouflage and hence remain unnoticed? Do unrelated thoughts pop up only later?

Some times when you are trying to think hard about something, thoughts simply remain elusive and unnoticed, as they camouflage with the background. So the trick is to change the background quickly, and the thought will then be visible.

A Premise

Look for its definition in google dictionary and you will find,
"A previous statement or proposition from which another is inferred or follows as a conclusion"

"If you find a contradiction, then check your premises and one of them will be wrong."  Found this while reading "Atlas Shrugged " and this statement kept coming back to me.

How does one make a premise? Do we give enough thought before making one? Do we reason out enough before drawing conclusions? Well, not always. Every time we find a contradiction, for sure at least one of our initial or intermediate premises was incorrect. So I will now look to make my premises carefully to make sure that my conclusions have the least possible errors, and will find lesser contradictions. But if I am unable to ascertain the correctness of my premise, I will not look to draw a conclusion at all.

Is the glass half full?

There was a time in life when a half filled glass always looked half full to me. Then came a time when I started noticing the empty part too. The realization of the existence of the empty part increased with time. At one point of time I realized that this realization now was so great that I forgot that the glass is actually half full.
And at last I got the entire picture, as I saw the glass entirely, the glass was both half full and half empty.

I would like to think of the current situation in our country that way. While we have achieved everything that we have since independence, there are loads of things that have to be changed, starting from our own attitude.

Whether it is our Indian media or us Indians in general, we have to realize that the glass is half full as well as half empty.

Questions

Questions.. They are an inevitable part of life.. One of the primary qualities that differentiates a human from an animal is curiosity. The human mind constantly manufactures questions.. Questions about everything around. The whats, the whens, the whys, the hows, the whos, the whiches..etc.  I don't think the list is complete.. While the human mind is practical enough to realize that a life time is not enough for it to work out all the answers, it tends to chose a select few questions that bother it the most and starts working towards getting the answers. And this defines the course of life that man wants to take. Whether every human embarks on this journey or not, one cannot say, because not always are circumstances favorable, and not always is the mind strong enough to fight the circumstances.
But whenever a human being has embarked on this journey, on a quest to find answers to these questions, it is mankind that has benefited

Sleep

A peaceful sleep..

That is what everyone wants at the end of the day.. The blissful feeling that a good night's sleep can give me is truly unmatched.

To me, sleep is a true indicator of happiness and contentment. So when in doubt while making a decision, one of the factors that I consider is this:- is this going to give me a sleepless night? Even if it means settling for something lesser, I really don't mind as long as its not something I would have to lose sleep on.

While people have their own priorities, a good night's sleep is high on my priority list.
